Hi Folk's
I've had my F350 for about 6 month's now and it's been great. However I just developed a small problem. After the first snow fall and freeze my backup warning system continuously just sings at us like we are tight up against somethings unless we turn it off all the time with the switch. I have cleared away any ice and snow but it continues to signals us in this manner. Any ideas why? Is this a weakness with this feature in the winter? Are me sensors frozen up? Thanks
That is one of the winter bugs in the system. It happens to mine often also. When I park at work, I keep the rear of the truck in the sun all day and they thaw and are fine.
gitane59 - I had a similuar problem with my 92 f250, after 3 return visits to service; they brought a expert tech in and discovered I had a bad sensor and a wireing hardness problem. After replacing the sensor and fixing the wiring didn't have the problem. Be patient, it was difficult for them to diagnose. You might want to have it looked at next time it serviced.
Mine did it when brand new, and still does it when there is ice and/or snow accumilated on the sensors. Just dust them off of snow and/or hold your palm of the hand over them until the ice melts. If you don't want to mess with that, just push the big P button on the dash and it will go off. You can turn them back on after the blockage melts off.
I agree with olfordsntone comments. Warm up the surface of that ultrasonic sensor and get rid of the clear coat of ice so that reflected sound can make can pass back and forth. Just went through a one of those snow storms that coated all sides of my F350 with the white stuff and the reverse sensor went into alarm. 30 seconds of hand warmth on the one offending "wet feel" sensor took care of the problem.
Thanks for the replies. Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I been recovering from surgery for the past 10 days. Next time they freeze up I'll try the warm hand trick to thaw them out.
