I need some help. I have a 04 250 and the brake lights have suddenly gone out on the truck and the trailer I haul with it. Now I know all four lights could not have gone bad at the same time, so this leads me to believe that there is a blown fuse somewhere. When I looked in the owners manual for the fuse location of the brake lights I was dissapointed to find out that there is not one. Does anyone know which fuse controls the brake lights.
Dissapointed is an understatement. I blew the fuse for my trailer running lights. No big deal right? Check the owners manual and it says fuse information on pages 212 and 213. Great, but all it tells you is where the panels are. There is no diagram of what fuse does what. Of course there are only a zillion fuses and it's pouring cats and dogs outside. I'm soaked and not happy. Does Ford think people with 4x4 trucks will only blow fuses in the dealership parking lot?? Of course it was the last fuse I checked. For the price of a new truck, a diagram is not so much to ask.
I have the same problem on my 2002 F250. Walked in to the local dealer service department without the truck (no brake lights,no drive). They allowed me to use the service department library to find the wiring diagrams. They then helped me trace the diagrams to find where the problem probably is. After this they make copies of the revelent pages for me at no charge. I just got back and have not had a chance to look into the information they gave me. It looks like a blue relay behind the radio which operates the turn indicators, flasher and brake lights. Currrently this relay vibrates and the blinkers sort of work when turned on and the key is in the off position. A special too is required to remove the radio which I have to pick up. I will let you know the results when I get the relay replaced.
I replace the flasher unit as instructed by the dealer. Did not make a difference. However, now the blinkers work well with the key off. Next I will look for some sort of ground problem or short in the switch.
