heating coil springs......????
I have aftermarket coil springs 3" lift. I don't like the way the bottom pig tail fits on the spring pad... I want to cut 2" off the pig tail, heat the end of the pig tail with a torch so I can bend it to fit around the spring pad/cup....
you think the heat will ruin the spring...?

Yes, it will ruin the temperment of the spring and chances are that it will either snap or sag very badly several inches past where you heat it. You don't want to apply heat or to ANY spring, coil or leaf. Cutting a little bit with a cutoff wheel or sawzall is fine.

I am having the same problem with my 4" lift superlift springs on my 76 150 4x4. I think it would hurt them if you get them that hot. Im not sure how your spring is held in but mine sits in a cup and has a retainer with a lip that sits inside the spring. I am going to redrill the retainer so it hold the coil better. Good luck with yours.

I would do as ivan says . never heat them , i had the same problem with the 4'' lift and later with the bigger lift , just grind them to fit in the cups but dont get them to hot.

Another option is if you have a custom spring shop around take it into them and ask them if they can make the modifications you require. They know how to heat treat it properly to preseve its spring properties without making it brittle. Some places will do this and some won't but it's worth a try.
