Not sure if its anything or not but i figured i would ask. I just started noticing a constant vibration in my 01 f250 diesel. While driving, and when its running sitting at idle in park. You can feel it in the steering when when just cruising at any or steady speed....kinda the whole truck. I got under the truck and if you grab exhaust you can feel it really good , but i am sure its not exhaust specific... and just seems like whole truck has this constant vibration it seems. Its not horribly horribly bad...but its enough to where i know its there all the time..and as i said just sitting at idle its there. It coudl have been there this whole time but i just started noticing it for some reason.
Any ideas of what it could be or where to look etc? I know its a shot in the dark but figured i would ask. I thought wheels need balancing or transmission or driveshaft....but it is the same at idle sitting still which rules them out i would think??? I even thought maybe the exhaust was hitting or touching somewhere...but all seems clear..the dp is very close to the exhaust manifold but its still not touching.
A lot of things can effect idle quality. When was the last time it had an oil change and was it diesel rated oil? Maybe a fuel issue. You might want to drain the fuel filter housing into a container an inspect the fuel drained for contamination. If you don't use one now, try a fuel additive and switching brands of fuel. Inspect the wiring harness connector at the valve covers. Could also be the connectors at the fuel injectors under the valve covers. Have the ecm checked for codes. Just a few suggestions.
If you hold it at a stady RPM, say 2000, in park does it change any? Can you feel it in the steering wheel idling in the driveway? Kinda sounds like seperate problems.....
Yeah you feel the vibration constant no matter what in the steering wheel and whole truck. Can be sitting at idle or holding rpm or cruising steady speed down the road...you can feel it through everything even the gas pedal. All is related...just not sure what would cause a constant idle. Pulley or belt possibly??
Just wondering if you ever figured out that vibration. I just bought an 02 diesel Excursion and I have the same issue. Mine really gets jumpy when I rev it above 2000 in park.
Same here ... exact same ... have no idea ... i thought the clutch or flywheel might be out of balance ... feels more like a slight miss ... the gear shift waivers about 1/4 inch when idleing .... you sortof feel like your are bouncing in your seat slightyly
I have the same thing. I brought my truck to Ford they checked it out and told me it was the Torque converter. So I had a Percision Industries converter sent to them. That was $1100. Then I got the bill from Ford, $1200. Although the new converter is great it was very expensive. And I still have that vibration. So if anybody figured this out please share it. By the way I would not take my truck to Ford again. Unless it's under warranty. Thanks,
I've read some more and talked to a couple of mechanics and it seems like a fuel delivery problem. One thread sounded a lot like what I'm experiencing and it was the IPS and IPR (Injector Pressure Sensor and Regulator). Another mechanic on hearing my description said it was a fuel injector. When I find the real fix I'll post back.
Anyone know a diag system that could shed some light without costing an arm and a leg?
6-26-06 I posted that I to had a vibration at idle. That night was drive to the gym when my truck just died. Fortunately for me I have this website. So I knew what it was. (CPS). And I had one. So I replaced it and truck fired right up. The one thing I did notice is most of that vibration is gone. The truck is running better than before. I thank you guy for all your information on this site. Thanks,
I have noticed that when i first start the engine that there is no vibration ... (again this is a slight vibration, bout a 1/4 to 1/8 inch movement in shift ****) only after driving awhile and stopping at a red light will i notice that it starts vibrating ... other symptom dont know if related is that at constant pedal pressure and ~1500 rpm it seems to hesitate-slight jerking similar to what i think a throttle sensor would cause.
Would a CPS going bad cause these symptoms?
