I have a 1977 F150, 302 with an auto trans. It doesnt appear to be the original, because it is a 4 speed, w overdrive. So when it is in top gear, the selector points to the "N", and I start to press on the gas, it kinda BANGS, and jumps into the next lowest gear. I brought it to a place in Farmingdale and he replaced the U joints, which were bad, so now it doesnt make the U joint "KLUNK" anymore. But it still jumps into the next lower gear and bangs real loud. He also said he fixed the linkage, but it still does it. Any suggestions?
Well, I took my truck to the local COTTMAN trans shop. It needed an overhaul they said. So $810 Later it drives great, but it still jumps into 2nd gear when starting from a dead stop at a traffic light, but much gentler now....so I will call Cottman and see what is up...
sturt1, Yes, after getting a referal from my local repair shop owner. I know alot of transmision shops have bad rep.s, especially the franchises, but this guy is very honest and reliable, which is rare in the tranny repair game...and he did tell me 1 of my engine mounts is flaky, so your reply makes sense. Thanks for your response, I need to fix the engine mount!
