Just picked up a '00 X and I am looking to upgrade the stereo a bit. I have the 'premium' stereo which I have heard has an external amp. From my previous vehicle I have a 50x4 amp that I used to power the factory location speakers, but I was wondering what wattage the factory amp is putting out? Would it be enough if I replaced the speakers with aftermarket that it would be useless to hook up my amp to them? If not, anyone know where the factory amp is? I am assuming the speaker wires for all 6 speakers will be ran from there so it would be an easy place to hook into the factory wiring.
I've got a 2003 service manual and there is no external amp listed in '03. 2000 head units were from Pioneer and awesome except for the radio display power supply burning out. 2002 and later are from Alpine and suck compared to the earlier units. I've heard the factory head unit is a 20x4 output but haven't found written documentation to back that up.
According to my '03 manual the front speakers come from the radio, the mid and rear come from the "Rear Integrated Control Panel" where they are paralleled after receiving the signal from the head unit. The head unit has (4) speaker outputs.
I've replaced the front speakers in my F350 with aftermarkets and it helped quite a bit, especially in the high range.
Good info! I have a very nice Pioneer deck that I am planning to install-think I will have any luck being able to still use my changer?
The X has 6 speakers so I wonder how that changes the way its all wired up.. Does you book say where the "Rear Integrated Control Panel" is for your truck? I would bet mine is in the same spot..
The Super Duty only has 4 speakers and in the crew cab the rear two are BEHIND the rear seat. I also don't have the Rear Integrated Control panel, all four speakers go directly to the head unit. As I recall the panel is at the end of the overhead console in the Ex but it's been a while since i've been in an Ex.
Does your present radio have the "RDS" button orthe "CLK" button?
