Need help - Overheating immediately
My 351W is overheating after idling for only a few minutes, 220 to 230 then i shut it down. It has been sitting for 7 yrs. I have removed the t-stat and there is alot of white stuff caked inside the housing, plus very little water comes to the top hose when running. I am currently letting it run for a few minutes at a time with rad flush cleaner in the hopes that it will break down some deposits and start flowing again. Any tips on what is the best way to fix this as I want to take it out this thx giving weekend. I've redone so many things and this is the last major obstacle from stopping me to take it out.

If it's heating up that fast me thinks you have a blocked radiator or bad water pump. You can try one of those back flush kits you hook up to a garden hose. The water will flow out of the filler neck.

that is a good tip I have a hot 351w, i ended up just puting an oil cooler and a new radiator, also see about a fan shroud. and run a thermastat, it slows down the water and lets it cool.. but first do what ken75ranger said.

Thanks for the help. I decided it must be the water pump and pulled it last wed. The pump was ok but the ports to the engine where blocked so I cleaned and flushed them and put a new pump in along with belts, hoses, t-stat, and t-stat housing. She ran good over the Thx giving weekend, although the temp was fluctuating which maybe a bad t-stat. Anyhow, it was good to run her again after sitting for 7 yrs. The brakes and axles I put in a few months ago worked good too. Although drum brakes at all 4 corners isn't the greatest.
