Scale Model Vehicles

Anyone build scale model vehicles for fun?? Im getting back into it, not that Im older and I can take my time. I always loved to build them with my father, but I never took my time so they all looked like junk! I dont know why I enjoy doing it so much, prob cause I can make the dream vehicle that I never had! Plan is to build a model of my ol truck 92 F150, 68 Shelby GT 500, maybe Olds 442, racing truck(F150 flareside). So what about you guys anyone else enjoy/hate buildin little vehicles?

I used to build a lot of models and still have a huge collection of unbuilt kits still in the boxes (some even in the original shrink-wrap). Cars, planes, ships... I built them all. Occasionally, when I see a kit I might lik to build someday I buy it and add it to the collection. There are kits I wish I'd bought when I had the chance: a couple more 1:12th scale General Lee kits (this is a really cool kit that is basically a full-cage, Charger stock-car racer), the BigFoot I kit (mainly for the 78/79 F-series body), and some Dart and Duster kits that are NLA.

I am currently fooling around building a few models for my basement, figure now that I am older and can do a better job on them, they will look really good in a display case in my den downstairs.

I used to do it a lot, and still do from time to time. I used to just follow instructions, now I just toss them, paint the way I want and I really like to mix and match kits. You really get a lot of extra parts in the 3-in-1 kits.

I used to build all kinds of models.

I'm looking for these particular models to build:

Burt Rutans "VARIEZE", "VARIVIGGEN" and "BEECHCRAFT STARSHIP"?

Does anyone know where I can finds these models, if they're available?

Out of my 154 hobbies, building models is one of them. I also collect die cast in 1/24th and 1/16th scale. I have most of the Bigfoot trucks in either die cast or plastic. Be happy to give anyone a link to my yahoo photo album if ya want to look at a partial photo composition of them. Send me a pm or an email. I have really gotten into the detailing of them lately, but it's been a few months since I've worked on any. Am into singing and carving at this point in time, but will eventually get back into that part of the cycle.

Started out with model airplanes. Had a couple F16's, an F4, F14, some kind of Northrop, a 2 foot long Space Shuttle, a little desk top Space Shuttle, (launch ready), and I guess that was it.

Then I got into cars. A 55 Ford with a blown big block Chev, 65 GT 350, 87-93 Mustang convertible, and a Prowler I'm working on for my father in law.

My planes are long gone, but I might just get another one.

If anyone has a lead - they do.

Don't you wish you could get inside them somehow and either drive or fly them?

I always wanted to scale up a P-38 and put a video cam in the nose, with an RF ground link to a monitor...

It could be real close to flying the real deal!

It is also do-able, but not on my budget. If you had a range, you could perform actual aerial dog fighting. The frequencies would have to be seperated.

Off the wall thought, as a follow on to the above:

The problem with an aerial drone from a control perspective is depth perception.
A monocular view won't work well. A binocular view would call for a set of goggles displaying info from side-by-side video imagers mounted on the drone itself.

It might work, and if it does the flyability would be greatly enhanced.

Twin cams mounted a normal eyeball distance apart on seperate frequencies so that the info fed into seperate monocles in a headset much like binocular NVG gear might do it.

I know dang well there are people watching this site who could explore that...

As far as that goes - "Hello Mr. Kelly!"
