Anyone have an engine block heater installed on their 6.0? I was curious what to expect to pay for the dealership to install an engine block heater. It's only a 35.00 add on from Ford. This is a $45,000 truck.
I was AMAZED when I went to plug in my engine block heater tonight and my '05 FX4 w/ 6.0 diesel did NOT have one. My 2000 V-10 had one.
When my 05 arrived it had everything, including the
block heater, but the wiring harness for it was missing.
Check your truck and see if the block heater is there?
It might be missing the wiring harness like mine did.
They ordered one and installed in an hour.
The dealer installed it for me.. It was part of the deal
when I purchased the truck, but I don't know why the
factory didn't install it in the first place?
I looked on the passenger side with a flashlight. Manual says diesel on passenger side and V-10 on drivers side. My original window sticker does not have the engine block heater as an option, I'm sure it's not there.
kw5413 - Thanks for the offer. I'll just let the dealer do it. I really need this in my part of the country.
I was just frustrated because I wanted to plug it in tonight. I don't understand why they didn't install it at the factory...
This may be a little off the wall but in defensee of Ford motor co. it is the bottom line that is the reason for some of these missing items. There are many of us along the Gulf coast and 2/3rds of Texas that don't really need these block heaters(have never looked for mine) and at $35 a lick it becomes a big cost and cuts into their bottom line. I know it must be nice to get in your truck on a cold morning and have it half warmed up but I believe it should be your dealership who helps you out on this,If they are selling in cold weather country. You know years ago the sold a lot of vehicles with no heaters, thats when a new ford pickup cost $750 and you had to drive 45mph for the first 500 miles. Just a thought.

The problem with that theory is that on trucks prior to 05 it was an option. Either $100 or $125 I can not remember which. I mad esure my '04 had it due to living in Michigan. How is it now a cost savings? They are installing aheater in every vehicle not just select ones. Were they really taking advantage by selling a cord for $100 bucks when they are now selling it for $35? Or are they now getting the heaters so cheap since they are in every vehicle that the $35 is pure profit. Sometihng tells me the cord was part of the assembly before.
If I am spend $5K+ for an engine option make it $5035 and throw the damn cord in.
All 06 and 05's have engine block heaters. But the cords only got installed as an option in all but a few of the "cold" states (there was a previous thread about this where those states are listed). I believe the "cold" states got them automatically.
My dealer wants about $85 to install a cord - that includes the price of the cord and about 30 minutes of time. The tech I spoke with was ticked about Ford not putting these in. He said they are a bit of a hassel to wind through and secure.
It is a PITA to install, but it isn't too hard. It's just the hassle of laying on your back to do somethng that shoulda already been done on a $40some thousand diesel!! I was going to buy mine from an International dealer but had one given to me!! Thanks George!
