Well... I am a little lost as to what is going on with my Powerstroke now... I orginally thought it was a blown head gasket... However... Tonight I took out the thermostat and filled the system up...so I could drive it home... and it did not seem to overheat...course...the temperature outside is about 43.... It certainly did not blow the coolant out of the expansion tank like before....
Driving it home it was POORING out white smoke. It SEEMS to be making power....
I added a little more coolant when I got home-
The temperature guage only moved a little bit... However I expect that because the theromostat is out ....right?
white smoke out of the exhaust????(you dont say where it was pouring out from) if thats the case i would not drive it. you run the risk of hydrolocking it as you are getting antifreeze in a cylinder.

if it blows antifreze from the fill tank, Hope i am wrong but it sounds like clasic cavitation problems, the cavation wears holes in the cylinder walls ans when you drive it pushes pressure into your cooling system and blows out the collant bowl. Have you been putting additatives into your antifreze so it does not cavitate on a regular basis? if not that engine might be gone, with holes in cylinders from cooling cavity to cylinder, that would also cause white smoke in exhaust, because antifreze is going into cylinders from colling jacket via holes in cylinder walls.
Yes I am getting white smoke out the exhaust. I took the thermostat out of it to drive it two miles home... filled it up with water...and drove it home...it was dumping white smoke out the exhust when I first started out..however by the end of the two miles it had begun to taper off... its like it comes and goes... The water level did not go down over night...
Also- I was speaking with a friend... he said to mention- This truck WILL not start without it being pluged in for an our or so. Temps here in Atlanta have been between 28 at night and 43-60 during the day... Once the truck starts in the morning... I do not have problems with it. I did not metion this because I figured with 1/4 million miles..and being a diesel...she needed to be pluged in... Could this be injector seals? causing white smoke...
And the coolant system just not being filled properly...water pump causing cavitation...?
if their is a hole in the wall the fluid would not go down over night, if injector o ring it could be letting antifreze into cylinder when driving
the only thing that flows "INTO" the injector cups is fuel and oil. what if you got this truck up to operating temp does it still blow white smoke? it could be just a simple glow plug problem if you are having to plug her in to get going. you shouldnt need to plug it in to start no matter how many miles if your glow plug system is up to par. has it done this since before it got cold? or just now?
or possible head gasket is messed up again.
or you have an injector cup leaking.
or cavitation.but this would be the first powerstroke case i have ever heard of.
