they nest along the delaware river but this may be a pair looking for a nesting spot for next year. i hope anyway.the lake is over 2 miles long and 3/4 wide. no power boats no poeple or homes on that island
Beautiful shot Charlie. I remember feeding wild eagles when I was stationed in AK and would go halibut fishing in Seward. Absolutely majestic animals. Is this what your doing to get that needed rest these days? I hope so. And I'm sincerely jealous.
I wonder if they make it down my way (Southern NJ, thinking of Gloucester Co. in particular) or if it's others? There have been a few sightings down here...wonder how many are actually in NJ and PA? They're even halting a multi-billion dollar rehabilitation to Camden, NJ...recently named the most dangerous place to live, or something like that. Petty Island is where the found it I think, right here in our part of the Delaware River. Last I heard there was a debate, because I believe it may have died?????and they were pinning the development company with it. Never heard anything more then just a claim on the news though.
I saw a Bald Eagle take flight from it's nest at Lake Shasta 3 years ago. Truly amazing how large they are. It's quite a rush to actually see such a magnificent bird.
this is my 2nd time to see bald eagles here. a lucky site. also have see a golden in south jersey 1 time along route 295. it's a site to keep. in your mind.
I have seen bald eagles out in the southern Black Hills, but not like it is around here. I have seen whole flocks of them flying over the Mississippi river at Keokuk, Iowa, where they nest for the winter. Good fishing for them, and moderate temps and protection in the bluffs. It really is a sight to see that many flying around.
We have a family of eagles here at the lake. They like to hang out in one of the trees in our front yard by the water. It is a wonderful thing to watch. Have the binocs sitting in the kitchen just to watch them.
I'll try to get some pics (after the snow melts and spring comes around).
Beautiful birds... I think I saw one around the Delaware river in North Jersey... too far away, and was on the highway at the time, but the thing was HUGE and suddenly dropped from the sky like a bullet. And it seemed to have no head on a cloudy day, so yeah, it was probably a "bald" eagle ...
Tons of them here in S.W. Idaho. Along the Boise river all winter, catching the planter fish. They are seen all the time in downtown Boise, perching looking for food. But, remember, all that human activity scares them away, like 5,000 cars driving over a bridge 100 feet away. If you get out and walk toward their perching tree, however, they will fly away. I'm not so sure I'd want to mess with that beak. I've seen them rip a 24" trout in half in one shot.
