I took a Tac out of an '88 Ranger V6. I want to put it in my '84 4 cylinder. What do I have to do to the tac to correct it for the 4-banger.

1. I think you'd have to run the wiring to run a tach in a non-tach 84 truck. Run a wire to the cluster tach pin from the coil, I guess.
2. The tach should have a potentiometer that you can adjust from the back.
I wish I could tell more, but you'd have to find some other Ranger forums for specifics.

I know about the wire from the coil. There's no pot on the tach. There is a resistor wrapped onto 2 pins but not soldered in place. I need to know the value of that resistor for the 4-banger.
I've tried 2 other Ranger forums. No help.

i bought a factory tach for my 92 that didnt have one and i put it in and it worked, all the wires were already run for it. i just made sure i got my junkyard out of a truck that had my same engine. i dont know about yours though since you got a tach from a diff size engine
