I have a `76 F-100 & I am having trouble finding out whether my donk is a 302 or a 351 without having to take the sump off
Is there any way of finding out by the engine number or somethhing like that
thanks
There should be numbers on the intake manifold in front of the carburetor. on a 351 the number should read 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.
On a 302 the number should read 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. I believe in 89 they went to the same firing order but I know prior to that they were different.
Well more than likely it's a 351w if it has the 351w firing order. BUT I have a 351w with a 302 firing order. It has a 302 camshaft in it. Doubtful, but yours may be a 302 with a 351w cam in it. The way to check is the water pump bolt holes. Look at the upper bolt holes for the water pump. How far are they from where the cylinder head mounts? A 302's bolt holes will be VERY close, while the bolt holes on a 351w are about 3/4 - 1 inch from where the head mounts. Figured you might want to know this......
