I noticed the back-up lights don't come on sometimes unless I jiggle the shifter and they still do not stay on sometimes. Is there a switch to adjust and where is it?The truck is a 1973 F-100 with 360 engine automatic C-6.Anybody had this problem?
My '74 has the same problem, but I hadn't gotten around to fixing it, as there are lots of other problems I need to care for first. Speaking of lights, has anyone had a problem with the brake lights staying on? There is about 1/4 inch of slack space at the top of the pedal travel that is not taken up by the spring in the pivot (uh, I'm assuming there is a spring... is there?). I have already adjusted the switch to its fullest extent, but no dice. They do go off if I pull up on the pedal, or when the battery goes flat.
I also had this problem, and my switch must have been worn to the point that I couldn't adjust it.
I took the switch off, took a piece of hard plastic hose cut it about 1/4 to 3/8 long( the length of the switch post),split the hose so that it slipped over the switch post. Reinstalled and adjusted it.
Make sure that the shifter arm is on the correct side of the switch post or it won't work.
And without question make sure that it won't start in gear.
Good luck,
Jeff
