ive got a 78 f150 with a 400 np205 c6 and 3.50 gears i will be running 35 in tires
ive got headers on it and just got ebock 600 carb for it
my questions
1) what do i do next ebock intake? and cam
2) what cam specs should i use to get good torque slight idle and some top end power?
3) what kind of realistic power can be expexted b4 complete rebuild
money is a problem and can only do it a step at a time. looking at tmeyer rebuild kit with badger pistons and milled heads in future. along with shift kit and regear

What kind of exhaust are you running? With headers, you probably should be running at least 2.5" duals, otherwise, you won't realize full potential of your headers. The cam choices are huge for these engines, don't know that I would limit myself to Edelbrock. Comp Cams offers many different grinds that should work well, but they depend on compression, fuel quality, and intended use. Intake manifold also plays a part in how well the engine breathes. Lots you can do, depending on what you want to achieve, and how much $ is available.
I take it you'll be running a dual plane (edelbrock performer) intake with the 600carb. Increasing the compression would be the most dramatic change (flattop pistons) or get a set of aussie 2v heads- then cam and a roller timing chain- then roller rocker arms. I've thought that 2 1/2" dual exhaust would hamper low end torque and that 2"- 2 1/4 duals would be better.
The trick, as i understand it, lies in unleashing the motor from factory build constraints by addressing compression, timing and flow (both in and out). Roller rockers looses up some ponies by cutting friction. I am going with roller lifters as well but thats another $500 or so and you have to get a custom grind.
The best cam for low end and a very stable power curve seems to be comp cams XE256. It has a duration of 212, 218@050. The idle won't show much though. An XE 262 might show some idle and may be a good alternative. I am going for performance and economy and my cutom grind roller cam is nearly identical to the XE256. But i should be well over 350hp and 420ftlbs- all within usable rpm. I'm also expecting decent mileage increase over stock as well. Not bad for nearly doubleing stock hp. I will be using full roller rockers, double roller chain, headers, flattop pistons and aussie 2v heads, dual 2" stainless crossover exhaust.

I have heard arguments for 2.5'' and for 2.25" exhaust and not sure what to believe with respect to low end torque, but bustednuckle also stated he wanted better top end. In my opinion, 2.5" would be the best compromise for better torque through the entire rpm range. I'm no expert on exhaust, it just seems like a good compromise with a cam designed for strong mid-range, if that's what is chosen. Again, my opinion only.
yes i do need some top end but need to have torque after all it its atruck. but i love being able to hear a little bit of cam.( so shoot me lol)
the cam and intake will be done at the same time. exhaust is flowmaster 40s off the headers dumped right in front of tires true duals. something mid range is cool. i have limited funds so i can get more radicl later and dont mind changing stuff later when more compression is present and the like. i like comp cams and was wondering about summits cams for theese motors?
