I wouldn't call it rare. I have seen a number of them but the two seat rail type is more common.

a rare bune buggy would be a 62 ford wagon, frame shortened 4 foot, full roll cage, 312 motor with 2 four barrel carbs, automatic trans, 9 inch rear with welded spider gears, 15 gallon beer keg for gas tank, flipped headers for top dump exhaust, custom 16.5 rim/dual wheel, steel diamond plate floor, sheet metal cabin skin, 6 inch round tube front bumper, 3 inch round tube nurf bars, 1/8 inch stainless steel radiator protector, and 4 4 inch k c daylighters mounted on the roof. this "car" was built back in 73 out of a car that was abandoned on the side of the road. we could not get a title for it, so we cut it. it is still fun to "aim" at things. ( you don't actually drive it). with the motor trans combo, and power to weight ratio, this thing is a point, mash the gas, and hold on type thing.

it was a work in progress for a while. after a tree limb took out the radiator ,the ss guard went on. a 4 inch oak was the reasoning for the 6 inch front bumper. and a stump that ripped the rear out was the reasoning for the 3 inch nerf bars and stiffer floor pans. we still have it, but it now has a 400 small block chebby truck motor and turbo 400 trans in it.been about 4 years since it has run, we finally got smart and just look at it and remember the good old days now.

I think what you have is a manx (sp). Get some sand sport or hot vw magazines and they will have all the parts you want.
