Ignition swap

86 F150, 4x4, 4.9six, np435 Calif. vehicle

I am planning to go to an aftermarket carb. I have the "elec" carb now so I believe that I need to swap out my ignition to do the replacement carb. So here is my question. Should I use Duraspark II? If so, can one of you experienced guys tell me what part numbers to look for? Or should I use a different system? I just want something that works, I'm not trying to build a hotrod.

Thanks

Yes, any duraspark II for 1985 - 86 will fit. Remember some wiring is going to be necesary also.

Thanks javi, that's what I thought. Can you refer me to a source online for part numbers? I have a book with wiring diagrams so I'm ok there if Haynes is to be trusted.

If I buy a distributor and an ignition module is that all I need?

you also need the harness to connect the module to the dissy & coil. There isn't a duraspark II on the 85-86. That ignition was the TFI w/ eeciv control - i.e. you have the electric carb.

If you can addapt a TPS sensor at your new carb, you can still using TFI ignition, EEC computer and all the stuff; since in that computers, ignition control program runs as a separate program module
