I have an 04 limited (16,000 miles) with V8, Auto and 4x4. The radio is the one with the 6 disc player and DVD option in the rear. This is the second radio that has been put in and it is doing the same thing the other one did. I will be driving along and the entire left side will quit playing. When you turn the volume up above the 4th bar sometimes it will kick back in for a while. I thought at first that the left channel was bad in the first one, but now the second one is doing the same thing. Any ideas or has anyone else experienced this. I guess I will call the dealership again.
I have the same problem with the 6 disc , sat radio in my 04 Eddie Bauer (36K miles). The left channel also periodically cuts out. Shifting the balance control to the left and increasing the volume would cause the left channel to return. A while back I removed the radio and cleaned the connector contacts to remove any oxide but problem has reoccurred since then. Now I am curious as to how many others have experienced this problem......
Surely we are not the only ones? I am concerned that it may not be the radio and that it may be something else. I don't want to waste the time at the dealership on another radio if it is something else. Although Ford has not been known for good factory radio's. My dads 02 F250 SD is on its 4th one right now and it is acting up.
Took it to the dealership today. After it sat in the lot all day, they took it in at 4:00, checked it and said that the plug going to the speaker in the door had broken. Since they waited till the last minute to even look at it. I have to take it back again! They are going to replace the connector inside the door and they say that will fix it?? Made the appointment for next Wed., will update then on the outcome???
I have an 04' Explorer, but just the single CD, while so far the radio works fine and all, my GF says it sucks, it loose's reception, on stations that you could hear on our 97' Expedition ! Any advice on this ??
Ford has never had a really reliable radio but they do always sound good. The only reason I won't replace mine with an aftermarket radio is that I would loose my steering wheel controls and that is something I have always liked about my explorer.
I agree with you 100% (Kraut). My point is that they can build a car and charge $45,000 for it and they can't get the radio to work?? That kind of makes you wonder about the rest of it. I haven't attempted to change this one for 1 reason it is still under warranty and it has become a GRUDGE thing. The second reason is that I'm not sure what would take it's place since several of the cars controls go through it (steering wheel controls, DVD). My dad has the same radio in his 02 SD and he is on his 3rd radio now and it is giving trouble. He has decided to go aftermarket now his is out of warranty. Thanks for the input, Greg
I understand the grudge factor, and, agree that if it's under warranty, stick it to them.
Ref steering wheel controls, I agree... GREAT feautre that I, too, would want to keep.
I wish Ford would just contract the audio system to a thrid party, such as Bose, and put rockin' steroes in the cars. Heck, the rice burners do that.
It would also be a GREAT marketing tool.
I can't imagine that customers haven't told ford in their marketing surveys that the audio system is a CUSTOMER DESIRED ITEM.
Overall, I'm beyond the days where I need/want a stereo that shatters windows in a five mile radius (such as in my younger days). I am satisfied, overall, with the factory unit, BUT
if it started acting up and was out of warranty, I'd pull that sucker like a cork and head for the local car stereo dudes.
Well, the results are in. They replaced a connector in the driver's door and NO problems so far after 3 days. This is exactly what they wrote on the work order and is something everyone needs to know. Since it is a TSB.
"Verified concern ran oasis found TSB 05-21-11 no sound coming out of the drivers door found corrosion in conn completed TSB replaced conn and retested OK at this time. conn 523 pin 1 2 ckt 804 og/lg 813 lb/wh."
Hope this post will help someone else out so they don't have to make several trips to the dealership like I did for what really seems to be a silly thing to go back for. Greg
Our 350 also had radio problems, such as losing reception when we shouldnt, ford dealerships, well the one in my town sucks and slacks out fo fixing everything, the best is to get an aftermarket one, as for the cut out out the left side, it could possibly be a wiring harness, they have a clip with a plastic "locK" on it, if u just pull it, it breaks, therefore the harness isnt secure, could be when they replaced the first one they broke on of the said harnesses.
