Hey all, haven't posted here in quite some time...been spending too much time over at TDS, but that's another story.
I've got a 99 F-250 PSD auto 4x4 with a Bully Dog chip, sonnax/tricum kit, 'Kwik' intake, straight piped...Anyway, In the last few weeks, I've been having a problem when in OD. I can manually lock the TC and it feels strong even in the 100 horse setting. But in OD it's another story, it slips like crazy if i'm not careful, but once its locked in, it stays there, unless i'm screwing around in the higher settings of my 6pos chip.
I never see over 150 degrees on my Trans Temp guage so I'm pretty positive that I'm not cooking it. What baffels me is why would this problem occur if I'm not getting into high temp situations. I'm almost leaning toward the fact that I have too much line pressure, but it doesn't make sense that a tranny will fail from a simple shift kit and a chip. I admit I'm hard on it from time to time, don't tow much and am fairly easy on it most of the time. The tranny is a Ford Reman with probably 25000+ mi. on it. I seriousaly doubt that the service department at the local dealership will even consider warranty work on it due to the shift kit and chip I installed a little after the new tranny.
Sorry for the long post, but to get to the point, what do you all think about my problem. TC or OD? also too much line pressure, or is there any reason my guage would not register the true temps of the tranny. I do have an after market cooler on it and live in maine, so that contributes to the cooler trans temps.
I have read a couple of posts suggesting that electronic and mechanically increased line pressure might be too much, but I'd think that would just result in the shifting being too hard.
I'm not a slushbox guy by any stretch, but I would lean towards the clutchpacks over the T/C.
There are a few really good tranny guys here, one of them will chime in soon.

Let read this right, you can make the transmission slip in OD with the torque converter locked if you are in the highest fuel setting? If so, for sure your OD is slipping, not your torque converter.

I'll have to agree with Kwik. The OD clutch packs are reasonably small in diameter as compared to the rest of the trans. If you need to replace them, you might as well upgrade to billet multi disc converter at the same time.
