While I have read many stories about carbon build up and sea foaming with obviously good results, I feel left out. I have never had a carbon build up, does this mean that I drive my vehicles too hard?? I use cheap gas too.
you probably run it long enough to get fully to operating temp. nothing like quick runs to the corner store or the mailbox to get the black death buildup in your motor.or so I've heard.....
driving style and average speed, brand of oil, climate, brand of gas all affect carbon build up in comb. chamber or on intake valve tulips.
most of the complaints I've seen on the forum have been in the 4L. relative had a 4L Ranger in early '90's that pinged from day it was new, dealer and service shops never could cure.
The concept of EGR was a bandaid to the industy, because they couldn't figure any cheaper way to bring the NOX emmisions down. The correct thing to do, is install better converters, and follow up with tighter engine managment. Most newer cars take this approach.
high ring blowby, oil consumption, leaking intake valve stems and failed leaking PVC valve all contribute to combustion chamber deposits
some brands of gas with unique additives also cause build up in combustion chamber.
