Did the Sonnax mod this weekend, replaced the transmission filter and refilled the unit with the recommended 5-6 qts of Mercon III as per the online instructions at BCD website, but did not do the TC flush since the fluid looked/smelled really clean.
My question is this: is 5-6 qts of atf what you actually lose and need to replace when doing this upgrade? The level on that "useful" dipstick didn't seem adequate even after 6 qts were refilled, so I roughly measured what was collected in the drain pan and it was closer to 7 qts so I added another 1+1/2 qts (total volume now = 7.5 qts refilled) and after 30 min running and rechecking it still looks about 1/2 qt low, but I didn't want to overfill so I stopped there.
BTW, has anyone noticed that on the Sonnax installation instructions it incorrectly states that the valve body you are to remove for spring/valve installation is the one at the "rear most portion of the transmission" (the correct one to remove is actually in the front most part of the trannie)?
This Is Just A Starting Point To Fill It. The Longer You Take To Do The Mods The More Fluid Will Drain. Trust Your Stick Reading And Add More. You Love That Plastic Tip Dont You. Ha Ha.
Thanks for the advice hm1, I'll go ahead and add the rest of the quart and recheck- no telling how much atf dripped on the ground when the pan was off...
Thanks also for the info wlihntr. What's with the plastic dipstick doohickey anyhow? Seems like the old metal ones were way easier to read; that's my 2 cents
