Tranny code T = A4OD??

Does the tranny code T indicate an A4OD?. I know that I should be able to find this on the web but the only reference I found said that it was for Rangers.

I think this need to be moved to the ranger forum. Right now you are in the 87-96 f-series. If I remember correctly the code T does stand for A4OD, but I'll have to look at my buddies truck tomorrow to tell you.

My question pertains to an 87 F-150 The tranny code is T. The reference I found says that T is for Rangers only, but I think the tranny in my truck is an AOD.

Does your shifter read like this: "P R N OD D 1"? If so then you have an AOD. IF it reads "P R N D 2 1" then you have a C6. I had the C6 behind a 302 in my '87.

It is definitely an OD tranny, I was trying to distinguish between the E4OD and the other one. I have a C6 in two trucks (a 92 F350 and an 88 F250)

E40D, IIRC, will have the OD option as a button on the dash while AOD will have it in the shifter as P-R-N-OD-D.....

at least, that's the way it was in my dad's 91.

The E4OD wasn't an option until '89, so it's an AOD. The trans's oil pan will also help. The AOD is a small pan with two angled corners. The E4OD pan is more like the C6 pan, but about two inches or so longer.

If you had the E4OD your shifter would read the same as the C6, but you'd have an OD switch on the dash. Since that trans wasn't an option until '89 you definately have the AOD.
