What do I do now? I have a 99 [late] F350 PSD crew cab. I replaced the front ball joints about 4 to 6 months ago. Put new inner and outter seals in at the same time. I also put new front leafs on with new shocks [4"] lift, new drop kit for the track bar ect.. Every thing has ben just fine until today. When pulling out of the drive I had a knocking sound come from the passenger side. I pulled the shock off thinking it may be the shock. No luck, still have the sound. I the checked the ball joints again ,there tight. I pulled the rotor off and checked the hub to see if there was any play , tight. I went back and rechecked all the u bolts ect.. Everything seems good. I even pulled the steering stablizer off to see if it was bad, it is ok. What do I do now????? I swear the front wheel is going to break off. Any HELP from all you GREAT enthuasiasts would be a blessing. Not driving it for now Alan
no, calm down. the front wheel is not going to fall off. maybe, if your lug nuts arent tight, but no. it is the chronic bad sway-bar bushing that makes the sound. it happens every time you hit a bump, right? the bushings that are between the actual sway bar and the axle mounting location are bad. you can get stock ones and pay alot and have them wear out again, or get EnergySuspension units. the ES part number is 4-5186, cannot be found on their site, but at local parts dealers. they run about $50.
i know, i have the problem too and am procrastinating on fixing it.
yes, i had the same problem on my 99 f-350, i delt with it for about 2 years and what a difference! Like a new truck! I thought the wheels were going to fall off too. You can feel it in the drivers side floor board. Installed new bushing and away i went, a lot less clunks!
