I have a 2002 F-150 Supercab with the standard 6' bed. Anyone with experience with Jason, Jeraco or A.R.E. truck caps (canopy or topper)? I want fiberglass that matches the body and excellent hardware. Thanks.
I recommend A.R.E. brand, I've had three and all have been excellent craftsmanship and hardware quality. LS2 tonneau on old 00 F150 lease truck, cap on 96 f150 and LS2 tonneau on current 00 F-150.
ARE is excellent. I liked the ARE shell on my previous 98 Supercab over my current Astro shell on my 02 Supercrew. It's simply better quality and has better sliding windows on sides and front end behind the rear slider window on pickup.
dadalpos, that is a great question. One that I have had on my mind too. I have the same truck as you except the KR model. What are the pros and cons of a topper?
If you are going to get a hard shell top or cover, ARE is excellent, I have owned two of them and been very satisified with the quality and paint.
Pros: They keep your bed dry.
Nice place to store or carry stuff.
They hide your stuff back there.
I think they really dress up a truck with matching paint.
Cons: They limit you load considerably, depending on which top you get.
Taller items simply cannot be hauled without removing the topper.
Ease of hauling can be hampered. Like a load of firewood, gravel, etc, if you
have the topper on there, you might have to hop inside to get the load out.
A retractable or tonneau cover can be used to avoid the cons listed above, but then they usually don't look as nice, IMO.
