Has anyone out there installed shorty headers on their 5.0L? (You know, the ones that bolt directly to the factory Y-pipe) I have a '92 5.0, and I think I am going to buy some from Holley.... I just wanted to see if anyone likes them or if they are just a waste of money.
Im in the process of replaceing the Shorty's on my 5.8 with another set of the same Flowtech shorty's.
I loved the sound(no Cat's,straight pipe's with Cherry bombs) when I first got my truck but then had a blow out where the tubes come together above the flange so since I bought the truck used and dont know how long the old ones had been on I went back with the Flowtech's because of $$ reasons.
I think there a good upgrade but remember to tighten the bolts everyonce in awhile because they will loosen up and the gasket will start leaking,I also used hi heat Loctite.
The guy at the shop said he checks his bolt's at every oil change.
Hope I was some help.

I just put a set of FMS shorties on my truck. They fit better than the manifolds that they replaced. The reason I went with the FMS ones because of the tube diameter. They are 1 5/8 (along with Edelbrock) were as everyone else is 1 1/2.Another big plus is they are also 409 stainless steel and should outlast the truck. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=1332
I'm looking for more like experiences with power gain and if the sound changes any.... I've got all stock exhaust until you get past the cat, then it's an IMCO glasspack with dual exits.... it sounds really good, but I think headers would make it sound even better.
My only issue is the loosening bolts.... that would **** me off after awhile... I don't like having to retighten stuff and constantly adjust. I have seen some bolt-locker things on summitracing.com, and for the price, I would hope they work.... they secure each bolt to the nearest tube, so I think I'll try them. If anyone has used these, let me know.
I also plan to buy some copper gaskets so they won't leak.
