Unknown Wire

Hi everyone. I own two Ford vans. Both 1998 4.2l v6's.One is an E150 the other is an E250.Both vans have a wire that I have not been unable to identify in the factory manuals. It is just above the brake booster tucked into the wire mold along the top of the hood opening. It is a black wire with what almost looks like a broken vacuum hose at the end.The wire is tagged with a white label which has the letters CTO on it.Can anyone identify this for me??No big deal,it just bugs me.Thanks to all in advance.

You might try and meter that wire while the engine is running to see if there is any voltage on it. My guess is that wire is possibly a customer available wire that is stubbed at both ends and you should be able to find the other end under the dash. What looks like a broken vacuum end is probably the stub cover. You can use this for an auxiliary circuit and has the benefit that it is already run through the firewall. Only problem is what gauge wire since you have to be careful what you connect to this as it relates to amp draw.

Thank's for the reply John.I'll do that this weekend and see what I get. It is not a heavy guage wire at all.I'll try to update with more info.
