lowering a 78?

im considering lowering my 78 ford f100. i would like to know how hard is it to do. my knowlage of suspensions is very limited and the mags i've read aren't much help. it has also come to my attention that drop spindles would not work on my f100 springs.

so my question how much work is involved to lower it, and has anyone done it and do they have before and during and after pics i can possible see

thanks for your help guys

I dropped my 77 1/2 ton 3" front and back. I used A.I.M. drop "I" beams and their 2" shackle in the rear. You can also replace the front leaf shackle for another 2" but you would be getting close to the bump stops. I like the quality of the parts the new stance and handling but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
You are about to embark on a BIG project. I wound up replacing everything in the front end and I do mean everything. It's a shame to get it all ripped out and not do the rest. I also removed a leaf in the back and used poly bushings.
You have to get the truck up on some good stands and rip everything out of the front end. Not rocket science but time consuming. Air tools help.
My only remaining problem is a slight pull to the left. Probably the result of one of the parts I replaced.
Oh yeah! I added air bags front and back to retain some load capacity. Only run 5# normally but should still be able to carry the big camper by pumping them up.
Probably too much info huh? Any way I don't regret it.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Mar-02 AT 02:01 PM (EST)]I could get one of my boys to dump 3/4 cubic metre of concrete in the box of your truck while you're asleep, Vamp.
That should lower the truck some.

There are numerous articles for lowering trucks on many rodding web sites.

lowering a 78?

Vampiro, I have a 79' f100 that is lowered 3" up front and 4" out back using components fron DJM. I used AIM on previous projects, and was very dissapointed. DJM sells better stuff for your application, but you know that opinions are like belly buttons an A$$ wholes, everybody's got them. My installation was straight forward and easy, a buddy and I installed everything front and rear in about 4 hours. Of course my truck only had 5000 original miles, so everything went smoothly, i am sure a truck in older condition would be worse!!! I have no before, or during pictures, but for the after pics, see Low mile 79' in the user gallery. Good luck FOMOGO
