Pictures

Hello all -

I am considering a new project. I will begin in the spring if I like where it is going. I am looking at building a 51/52 F-3 dually. I want a very basic, traditional look to it. I have seen very few with chromed grilles, and lots of other chrome on them, with solid color paint jobs(black, green, red, etc.).

If anyone can find some pictures of a truck like this, it would be very much appreciated. I have been looking, and am getting tired of using my imagination. the ones with all the pictures are these heavily modified ones, and are all purple or yellow. It's just not what I want.

I really appreciate any help. I have been looking at all of your's pictures, but it seems most people don't like duallies.

While I am here, what is the GVWR of a '51 F-3 dually?

The reason you haev seen very few with chromed grills, is because they weren't offered stock. If you've seen any at all, they would have been a custom chrome job. A 51 would have a silver tone grill, the 52 an ivory grill.

Also, as far as I know by looking at my dealer literature (1952 series) they never offer a dual rear on the F-3, they only started to put duals on the F-4 and up.

The GVWR for a 1952 F-3 single rear ranges from 5600, 6100, or 6800 lbs depending on the tires

The GVWR for a 1952 F-4 with dual rear is 7500 or 10,000 lbs depending on tires

As far as pictures, check my gallery. I do have a handful of pictures of a 1952 F-3 project I'm working on

Page back to last week's topic "What's Wrong With This Truck?". Toward the end of the thread BobJ49F2 added a picture of a clean looking F-4 that's had a pickup bed added. The bed is custom, but the overall look is correct. When I got my '52 F-3 MH it had DRW studs. The PO had, unfortunately, simply bashed up the fenders to allow the duals to clear. I think you could take a standard 8' express bed, add maybe six inches +/- of new metal to the fenders to clear, add DRW spacers and you'd have your dually. You'd probably also want to ditch the NP rear in favor of a Dana 60 or 70. And if you were really gonna use it as a dually, you'd probably want to box the frame. Stu

I really like the pictures of that truck! That was nice. I was thinking I would run a flatbed on it though. I want a 10k gvw, so I guess I'll do an F-4.

I have read all the posts abotu putting a new frame underneath, and am now rethinking my original idea of putting a new rolling chassis under the body. It does seem that the majority of problems revolved around the bed however. How much trouble would it be to modify the cab mounts only to fit a different frame?

I just want somethign with as few one-off parts as possible so that I can drive it.
