I think I'm going to need to rebuild the engine now on the ranger, from 1000-2500rpms, I hear a knocking sound in the engine, like either valves, or rod bearings going bad.
also, my oil pressure seems to be staying rather high lately, and I havent got a clue why. it bothers me to see this kind of thing on my vehicle.
any and all help is appreciated.
EDIT: forgot its an 83 truck, with a 2.0l I4 motor, and around 142K miles on it.
I think it got a little better with fresh oil in it, and a new filter, but the problem isnt totally gone now. it had been about 4 months since I last changed the oil. no metal shavings, which I think is good, probably the valve train is misadjusted.
Still need help with the high oil pressure, and a clue how to figure out whats causing it/how to fix it.
Have you verified that it's indeed high with a mechanical gauge? It may be that the sending unit is bad, or the voltage regulator on the cluster is getting flaky, etc.
Can you tell where approximately the knocking sound is coming from? I really have no experience with the 2.0, but for some reason I'm thinking that it has solid lifters. If so, the valves may just need adjusted. Surely someone else knows the answer.
