I need to remove the 4 rotors on my truck and take them in to get machined. I had a ranger before and the rotors came of easy. I was wanting to know how easy the rotors are gonna come off my f-150. any helpful hints appreciated
Oh they are really easy to take off. I took off my two front rotors and replaced them with slotted and crossed drilled and it was really easy. just take the wheel off, cotter pin, nut, bearings, rotor and bam they are off. Probably the hardest thing was packing the bearings with grease. Oh yeah i had a problem with the rotors ticking. If they do that just take the wheel off again and tighten the nut just a little and you will be good to go. Have fun with that.
Snowman54,
When I did the brakes on my 99 f-150 the first time, the rotors were so rusted in place, I had to beat them off with a 3 lb sledge. They put a ton of salt on the roads here in Mi and as the rotors rusted, the rust "grew" around and over the wheel bearing hub. Ever since that, I put a very thin layer of anti-sieze on the inner surface (non-working surface) of the hub to help keep it from rusting. This works well. If yours are not rusted, once you remove the caliper and caliper bracket, the rotor will just slide off the lugs.
Assuming you have a 4X4, the rotors are slide off but as mentioned they freeze on the hub. Spray around the lug studs and hub with PB Blaster and let set for a little bit. They with a piece of wood in between - hit the rotor with a hammer and it should come off. If it is a 4X2, the wheel bearings hold it on. There is no chance of being frozen on. Just remove the bearings and off the rotor comes.
