the other day i pulled the heads off to put a new head gasket on and it started to rain. Well it rained for three days and I had to work everyday for five more days then when i went to check on it this morning the block has light rust around the top of the pistons. How do I get this off safely before I put it back together.
thanks for any help. Oh yeah it's a 77 f-100 with a 302.
I always use white lithium grease around the top of each piston to keep grit from falling down around the piston top. The grease catches the grit and dirt so it can be wiped away at the end of the job.
Clean the piston tops with a wire brush while you are in there. Just keep applying the grease, moving the piston, and wiping away the grit.
