3 speed to a four speed

I have a 65 ford f 100 that has a 3 speed and I would like to put a four speed in it with a floor shifter. It currently has a 352 engine. I have a four speed tranny but it is a bout 6" shorter then the 3 speed and the bell housing from the 3 speed will not bolt onto the 4 speed.

Any help on how to do this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Use the 3 speed bell housing that's there now. It doesn't matter. The tranny will bolt right up as long as you have the similar year (early 60's on) tranny. As for the driveshaft, you'll have to find a donor truck that had a 4 speed in it or have one made.

What 4 speed? If it's a np435 you'll need the high "hump'' in the center because those tranny's are higher. It's just a additional sheetmetal part that bolts on and I would think they would be fairly easy to find. And of course you would have to cot a big hole in the floor.

How do you tell if it is a np435? The truck I took it out of was a 64 short box with a 6 cylinder.

64 will not fit the 65 up bell.

The only bells that the early pre 65 units fit is the F350 or bigger FE Bells as they have a dual bolt pattern with the engine mounts cast into the bell.

Jenkins where are you located?

I had this same problem. I'm putting a 4 speed in my 66.

The 66's 3 speed bellhousing won't work, but there are only 2 styles of bell housing. the earlier type will work with the 4 speed and is a little longer.

the problem you will encounter is that most of the 4 speeds don't have a place to put a rear motor mount, so one will need to be fabricared to mount to the bell housing and the cross member that runs undernieth.

NP435's have an aluminum top cover, t98s, t18s, and t19s have a cast cover and have either their type, or a 13-01 cast on the drivers side
