What Effects Speedo Readings?
Hope someone can help me on my first post!
I recently replaced the Transmission (AOD) on my 1989 E150 Van with a used AOD transmission from another unknown vehicle. (Might have been a Lincoln?).
I have a different problem now - the speedo is about 12-15% out, a bit too much for my liking...
There must be some difference in between the 2 transmissions but there was nothing physically different. Is there any adjustment at the transmission or speedo to correct this problem?
I am assuming that there is a different gear or something in the transmission tail section where the speedo cable plugs in, but I hope not 'cos that sounds like a big job for a small annoyance...
Any help appreciated.

On the side of the AOD where the speedo cable hooks in look for the retaining bolt. Remove it and slide the adaptor out. There should be a gear on the end of it. Do the same on the old trans, and put the gear from the van in it.

Actually, had a look at the old transmission in the garage. Maybe I am missing something, but the old box did not have a speedo cable in it and so there is nothing in the hole where the speedo cable should go.
Also I have only ever had 1 speedo cable - the one originally on the van.
I am guessing this means I have got to get a different gear for the end of the speedo cable? If so - does anyone have a part number or description - that sort of thing might be hard to source in the UK.
