I got a mint 73-79 cab a few weeks ago and I'm trying to determine if it's been repaired or not. Everything looks mint and original except for the gutters. It looks like they were caulked or partially filled with something. It looks professional and all, but neither my 78 or 79 look like this.
Does anyone know if this was ever done at the factory?
my 72 regular cab and my 75 crew cab both had this stuff in the drip rails also... the 72 had never been repaired as i know the original owner and bought it from him.. the 75 i'm not sure of... so it appears as though it was done at the factory on some vehicles..
I know Ford uses what looks a feels like seam sealer in the gutters on the Mustangs, probubly the same in the trucks. If it looks ratty, it peals out pretty easily, I use a clay spatula you can get from an art supply store, works pretty good, then reseal it when it's clean.
Like I said, it looks perfect. Too good to be a repair in my opinion. The whole cab is like new except for the ceiling where the insulation was stuck to it. I'm just trying to determine if it was original or a patch job. I don't want to tell the buyer that it's all original if it's not.
Yep, it is factory seam sealer. I know, I replaced mine with epoxy sealer when I painted my 79 that still had the factory paint on it. It was still in good shape, and sticking well to the gutters, just discolored some.
