Are you saying they are made by Crane? Confused.
Did I miss something in the above posts? I am going to reread the thread.
LOL, No Randy I'am the one that was confused...there is so much Crane stuff on this forum....But it is known by some that the Edelbrock Springs were over rated....LOL..I'll get my head out of my buttone of these days!!

I don't think its valve float or running out of cam, My 396 turned 7500+ with a stock mechanical fuel pump, out of the box Edel. heads, stock NON adjustable rockers, Comp 292H cam, Victor intake, & an 850 Demon carb during a burnout (about 280 feet long). It turns between 6000 & 6500 during a truck pull and never starves for gas. I guess I happened to get a really good Carter stock pump or it's possible your's is on it's way out. Just a thought.

The edelbrock springs are almost identical to some Crane springs (the lighter springs they used to recommend for the 521 cam) as measured by my local machine shop. Now, crane recommends some stiffer springs for my cam. If I get time I'll scrounge around for some part numbers.

its hard to say! I have gotten a stock pump and 99893 springs up to 5800rpm but thats about all it goes. I did tighten up the installed heights, for more seat and open pressure.

Just wanted to say most company throw on moderate valve springs to keep profits ideal. I would opt for a bare head and setup it up myself.

We also got to remember, springs from the same batch have around a 10% varience.

If so, it's not fuel starvation. If it was, it would run crappy for a few seconds until the carb filled up with fuel again.
Yep - as soon as I got her up into second gear, it went away and the motor was happy again, climbing back up through the rpms, tire still smoking. It all happened real fast and it was only at that spot for a split second, but it was enough to get my attention.

I have used a 292H comp cam extensively with the recommended springs and lifters from comp cam. Usually at about 7500 is where mine started floating. The result was with cheap PAW push rods they were bent so bad it was very difficult to jerk them thru the holes in the manifold to replace them. When I changed them to hard comp cam pushrods the next time at around 7500 I lost a rocker shaft.I finally got tired of spending money and time on repairs so now I think 6000 is the limit. You should be able to do that with the proper lifters and springs wjthout breaking a sweat.

Russ, you should be able to pull a 1000rpm past peak hp if the valvetrain is up to it.

Amen! I can really feel when the FE446 starts to drop off at the track. The massive weight and crappy aerodynamics really exagerate the power falling off after the peak.

Well Russ, you are right but you will at least be able to pull it in 1st gear with a c6, after that it would be almost impossible to pull 1000rpm past peak hp in a truck.

I think its best to shift around max hp as the torque has been droping for about the last 1500rpm, but for messing around you can pull the xtra rpm.

I hope nobody who is racing, thinks redline is ideal or the fastest way to go cause it isn't.
