non-adjustable rockers

I have a clevite performance cam #229-2088 that will go into the 390. The box reads: SAE duration int. 296 exh. 296, gross valve lift int. .528 exh. .528. Should I definitly go with an adjustable rocker set instead on the non? If I go with the adjustable rockers, how should I set them up and will my summit hydraulic pushrods work?

Thanks

well the cam peaks very odd. it peaks at 2k for torque then falls off to almost nothing by 3 k so you have nothing after 3 k.it makes onlt 235 hp and 287 torque which is less than stock.

I should have just bought the 941. I was just being cheap when I bought the clevite. I could always throw it back on ebay. Its good you said something cuz I dont want to fire this thing up and have is be a POS. And I am sort of learning as I am going here so let me know if I am doing something wrong.

the 941 is a good cam at 89.00 the clevite runs i think 69.00 so the 941 was 20.00 more. you can use your lifters with the 941

I had just purchased the Crane 941 and i was mocking up the rockers using the stock lifters i had before the engine was torn down. The pushrods didnt fit (too long) and i thought i bought the wrong ones. But then i pulled the lifter out and grabbed the new ones that came with the 941 and the new ones are alot shorter by about a 1/4 of an inch. I put it all back together using the crane lifters and it fit perfectly.

So i would check to make sure that the lifters are the right size. I bought the 941 as a kit so it came with its own lifters.

its the the 296 duration that is the biggest problem, makes for a pig. Then the .050 duration is low and power falls off soon. Some times people talk about area under the curve, and clevite, melling, speedpro lack that.

Woah, I might have stumbled onto something here, the 352 I have acts excataly as you described, I know when I bought the truck it had been rebuilt, it has good power at 2k and at 3k falls flat on it's face.I wonder if that is the cam the builders used. Add to that it doesnt like timeing much ( if i set it to 12btdc the plugs burn funny, back it down to 8btdc they burn fine ( this is with 10 in the distro getting a max of 28 mech ) I never can get it to run right.

possible. it is a very common cam to use in rebuilds and perfroms worse than the stock cam. the 941 is the way to go and at 89.00 is a steal of a deal.

always replace lifters when you change cams... you can reuse lifters if they are on the same cam AND the same lobe- they wear into each other... if tyou get the lifters wrong or on a different cam, it will eat the camshaft, dont ask mehow i know that- all i see and remember is dollar signs.. LOL
