Hello, I have a early 99 F350. Just curious what my options are to upgrade the turbo. I've pretty much decided that there aren't any options without converting to the setup on the late 99s. I've seen one kit on dieselsite.com for over $900. I was just wondering if there were any other options or kits or someone who has done this before. Here's what I'm workin with:
early 99 F350 7.3 (mean green)
6 spd
Tymar intake
5 inch exhaust
Diablosport Predator
3 guage pillar (boost, pyro, oil press)
I have an early 99 myself, and am going to upgrade my turbo to a Holset H2E. They make a kit for the early 99 with optional 3" intake plenums. It's kinda spendy, but it is a pretty sweet setup, and can handle a great deal of hp.

I've been looking at the van turbo swap recently. You take a turbo off of a 99-03 Powerstroke van, upgrade it, and replace it with the turbo in your truck. The Van turbo is better than our stock turbo because it has a bigger Exhaust Housing (1.15 AR). It also doesn't come with a wastegate which is also nice. The upgrades that are usually done are adding the ATS Ported Shroud Compressor Housing and you'll need to get the Van Turbo Flange Downpipe adapter. You can find those parts at Diesel Innovations under Products, Ford, 7.3 Liter, Induction.
This turbo is pretty inexpensive (compared to BB's and the H2e) and it can support lots of power (around 400 HP). Good Luck
Actually the van turbo swap isn't too bad, just find someone who has gone to the Hypermax and get thier old stuff to plumb in your van turbo. From what I understand it doesn't have an exhaust back pressure valve either.
