ok fellas i have a 79 f150 4x4 longbed and was wondering if i could convert it to a shortbed with out getting another frame see i was thinking of just getting the wheelbase measurments for a shortbed and moving my rear axle up to mach that measurment and just cutting the rest of the frame off what do you guys think?

Usually when converting from a long box to a short box you cut the excess length off in the middle of the frame behind the cab mounts otherwise your rear axle placement will not match up to the wheel wells on the shortbox. When welding the frame back together you need to box the frame where you cut the piece out to keep it from cracking around your welds and if you lack good welding skills have a competent welder perform the work. If you can find a shortbox truck to take measurements off of it would help. You will have to shorten rear drive shaft, fuel lines, brake lines, and possibly your exhaust if it bends around your rear diff. Not an expert on this by any means and good luck on your endeavor.
