Just put new shocks on my 97. A couple of combo wrenches and a socket set was all I needed, put 'em on without a hitch even though I took off the originals. Thin-wall sockets would have been helpful for the lower front mounts. WD40 helps the removal.

Take a LOT of pecaution and care on a 1st gen shock installaton. The front bottom studs that have the nuts will beak right off. Soak the nut/stud many times for a few days. Maybe even heat the nut with a torch. They break off very easy.

I can second that from experience. When they do break, just drill out the studs and bolt it back together with grade 8 hardware. Simple fix, but annoying none the less...
