Yes as Budsgarage says, your pushrod is too long holding pressure in the MC. Try loosening the MC mounting bolts almost to the end of the threads. If that releases the pushrod enough there should be no pressure.
Beg, borrow, build or buy a pressure bleeder, worth its weight in gold. A fresh brake system will have MANY air pockets and you and your helper will sometimes spend hours bleeding.
Another alternative is the old fashioned gravity method. Open all bleeders and go in the house. The next day close them and voila.
Residual MC valves and internally collapsed rubber hoses are the major cause of hard or hung brakes. Visually inspect any rubber hose before installing. Antique NOS ones can be failing while in the box. Imports can be pure garbage.
