I have been having alot of trouble with my electronic 4 wheel drive on my 98 f150. Sometimes it would come on and work fine and then not shift out.Sometimes would not shift into 4 wheel drive at all....About a month ago it shifted into 4high in a parking lot. Had to remove transfer shift motor and disengage front axles. Thinking I had a bad GEM module I just put a new one on and I have the same problem. It is still stuck in 4 wheel high...Has anyone had a problem like this....I don't think I have a bad swith but am looking for clues...Thanks for any info.
hi i am new here and i am having the same problem i get a gem code of 1820 cw realy problem, did you figure out what the problem was ? does any one know where the clock wise transfer case relay is?
I have looking at my wiring diagram and I see a transfer case electric clutch relay which it says it is in the RPO relay block. I have not found it yet. There is also a transfer case relay module behind the center of the dash. Let me know if you have any luck...I was going to try a different transfer case motor off my boy's truck. Is your truck locked in wheel drive also??? thanks for the input
I'd venture to guess it's the shift motor in the t/case. I've heard that is one of the more common things to go wrong. Some of us have the MSOF, so we don't have to worry about it!!! HAHA!!
the problem i was having was the transfer cace would shift into 4 hi and the front end would not engage and not shift back out . is there any way to put it on a scanner and get any gem codes for the 4x4 if so i can look them up on alldata and try and help you out?
Dship what exacly is your problem transfer case stuck in 4wd or front diff still engaged. And your truck does not have a transfer case cluch solenoid that is only on AWD models
My truck shifted into 4 wheel drive high in a parking lot front and rear engaged...I had to manually shift out the transfer case by removing motor and turning it to 2 high..also had to disconnect vacum hoses and shift out the front end...I changed the GEM module , started truck with everything hooked up and everything went right back into 4 wheel drive high...Same as it did before and will not disengage...The Mitchell on demand printout of my 98 4.6 shows a transfer case clutch relay and a transfer case shift relay module, but I have not checked to see if I do have the clutch relay..
