Those with the Edge Evolution...Question.

I am showing 15.3 psi of exhaust backpressure at idle. Does anyone know where this reading is taken? -pre turbine/post turbine.

What position is the EBPV supposed to be in when not functioning?

I suspect a stuck valve. I get up to 35 psi of backpressure when under load.
I would think that if the EBPV was open, there would be realatively no to little backpressure readings.

There should be no backpressure at idle. If your EBPV is closed you would be able to hear it hissing, even at idle.

my ebpv is not working right now, but I can tell when it is closed. at an idle with it opened I still get 13.8 or so. don't know if that will help but there it is

Well that doesn't make sense. If you truly had 13 psi of exhaust drive pressure there would be 5 psi of boost at idle! Gotta be a bad sensor or something wrong with the way that the Edge is reading things.

I just posted some info I found on dieselmanns web site about the EBP sensor and valve. It's on the EBPV problem thread. From what I've read, the Evolution gets the exhaust back pressure reading / value from the EBP sensor which it's reading from the passenger side exhaust manifold, pre-turbo. So it's really a exhaust manifold pressure reading. A dirty tube to the EBP sensor will give inaccurate values if I understand it correctly.

Sorry BuickTurbo, don't mean to hijack your post, but I just had another thought regarding the Edge Evolution monitor / programmer. I assume it gets the boost reading from the MAP sensor and it gets the back pressure reading from the EBP sensor (exhaust manifold pressure), you can then do a comparison between pressure into the turbo and boost output. I think you can even monitor them both on the same screen. If the 2:1 ratio is correct, your 35 psi "back pressure" (exhaust manifold pressure) under load should be about 17.5 psi boost, which sounds about right. As a diagnostic tool, if that relationship is ever off by alot, it could mean you have a sensor problem, a problem with your turbo, boost leak, etc.

I don't have an Evolution, but they intrigue me. Maybe when I win the lottery I'll get one.

i bought one about two days ago, i am stacking it with my Juice. hopefully i can make the transmission "harder", with more of an RPM drop between shifts. i also want to bark the tires when shifting. $300 new, off ebay.

Stroker2 you are forgiven.

As for barking the tires Stroke, If I can do it in a dually.......I can actually bark 3rd because the 1 to 2 shift the wheels are still going, then I back out of it to catch earth and chirp away third. I don't do this often, but it's fun at a stoplight. I wish I could see the faces behind me, but it's a PSD.

cool!

do you by chance have the sonnax valve and tricumulator springs?
after you added the evolution, did you notice a more manual-like transmission? by that, i mean does it drop rev's more when shifting, as if there is more line pressure?
