The first thing I did when I got the Aero was put 14" wheels, to lower it's center, HD shocks, a good tune up and keep it's oil changed every 2000 miles and I get 23-24 mpg. It is a 90 4.0 with the auto trans, now with 234000 miles on her.
I thought 14" wheels are already standard on Aerostars?
Hhhmmm, I have 2 AERO's, 1 is a 90 2wd and 1 is a 91 4wd, I got the 90 when it had 20k miles on it and my Brother in law got the 91 with 30k on, both had stock wheel covers and both were 15" wheels. So I would guess both were stock.
I'm sporting 215-70-14's and they ride very well. I would like to get a rear sway bar someday fo rtowing my boat.
My first priority this fall is to get some Shur Grips.
hi Bertha
what does the Federal door sticker say as far as factory build and ship tire and wheel size?

18-19 HWY/country roads/city mix. 3.0 ext. w/ 118k mls, stock 215/75-14 tires. Once on a return trip from vacation, I had to drive 500 mls with the small spare wheel at constant 50mph - 30mpg.

Hi Tomucen:
I have to make a 200-mile round trip this coming Saturday. I'll go at 50 mph and give the guy behind me an ulcer . Then we'll see what the mileage is. As far as the 18-19mpg combined, that's what I get under normal circumstances.
i almost always drive the freeway speed limit cruise control any more. only rigs i pass are touring model T's, rigs that are broke down and a few loaded semi's on the hills. ever drive in the left lane at the speed limit, noisy.
my mpg's drop 2-3 mpg going from 60 mph to 70 mpg speed limit, about 10%. regular here down to $2.19, guess scolding the oil CEO's did some good.
Been getting ~17 MPG in my ol' '86 3.0 (driving on an island is like continuous city driving). Of course, its a work van, so its loaded with parts. I've gone from 15 MPG to 17 MPG with a new coil and distributor, and proper retiming. In the past when I've asked what were good quality shocks to put on, my mechanic would say "Aerostars are rough riding and there is no shock that will give you a smooth ride; just buy regular Munroes or whatever". What's up with that? Is there no "quality" shock for my Aero that will really make a difference in ride??

Hi Copper,
going 50mph for 500mls almost gave me an ulcer. But there was no way to get a new 215/75-14 tire along our route.

these are 2 ton trucks with a straight axle in the back, only thing that could make them worse riding on a rough road is leaf springs front and rear like an old International truck.
stick with the nitrogen gas Monroes and spend the money saved on a set of overloads for the back, air lift shocks or air bags, i tow with the air bags and a rear sway bar, drives and rides like a dream, i change the shocks ever 30k since it used to spend much of it's life on rough roads in the hills.
lots of bad bad roads there in Oahu, in fact the main roads aren't that great, costs a fortune to get good asphalt delivered to the islands and no good hard granite rock, all volcanic rock.
I have a 91 4.0 and get a solid 20+ in mixed driving. I have seen over 25 in straight cruise on the computer. this is after correcting for the computer's reading about 10% high. I usually cruise at about 70. slowing down really does help.
