I figured this may be the nature of the big six but i have to ask anyway.
My 83 F-150 has what i call a cold start rattle, or knock. Its got fresh oil with a Motorcraft FL1A. Oil pressure looks good, in the 30+psi range on a mechanical guage. What could be causing the noise? I haven't gotten under the hood with a stethescope yet so i haven't isolated it. It just bothers me a little bit.
Anybody have any suggestions? The engine has 159K on the clock.
The only noise I associate with the 300 is it sounds like a can of marbles rattling around at 3000 rpm or so. I've had mine since it was born 22 years ago. If you have a low rpm deep thud, I believe that could be bearings.
My 1990 300 six has rattled like hell at start up ever since I've owned it!!
It starts at a real high idle speed, then drops off to normal idle, but it knocks like heck for 3-5 seconds during the high idle speed!!
I just assumed that was normal!!??
