I have a 95 Ford F150 w/ a 302 (176,000) and have no oil pressure...
It makes a clacking noise...(variable with RPMs)...
I can pull out the Distributor and reset it, and I might get oil pressure back...
Please Help...A mechanic told me that I needed a new motor, not planning on replacing it...
the first thing you need to do is check the oil pressure properly with a guage at the oil pressure sender.
i'm takeing a wild guess but it's one of a few. you many have a pickup tube thats cloged up with sludge, a bad oil pump or as your mechanic said a worn out motor.
if it's the later i'd slip in a new set of main and rods with a new pump first. but my bets on a combo of pump and sludge with those miles. as i've seen and done to many myself.
don't drive it any more as you will wind up with a new motor.
Yeah, check the output at the sending unit, but most likely you have a shot pump. Replace the pump and see if the pressure returns. If not, it may be time for an overhaul.
checked oil pressure with a "real" guage, and it had oil pressure, was able to get it to the ford dealer two mondays ago, said that it would need a new motor, and sure as $***, it died on the way back home...
needless to say, ol' blue went bye-bye, but I did put a picture of her in my gallery...
