I need to replace the brakes all around on my 91 F150. I've never done brake shoes before( only pads and rotors). Anyone got a good how-to and/or tips to make my first time easier?
1) do one side at a time so you can use the other for reference
2) take digital pics if possible
3) a chilton's or haynes manual is always your best friend
4) replace all the springs while you're in there. no sense in half-assing the job.
5) you'll need a brake shoe tool to make getting the springs on and off easier. otherwise, you'll be there all day
6) remember to back the brake adjuster off all the way to make life eaiser getting the drum off and on. you'll need a brake tool called a spoon to do that.
7) get the drums turned. do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again for a while.
Thanks. I have the tools for the shoes, just haven't had to do them yet. I'll just take my time and go by the Haynes manual. Got the shoes and new hardware today. Hopefully one day this week I can have time.
