brake light switch help!!!!

ok... here goes...

I have been wiring a 49 ford f-100 got everthing working including the brake lights (that is with a toggle switch wired to the fuse box). My problem is that the wiring directions state " run the two brake wires to the brake switch, and connect them to the fuse box where necessary." And my brake switch on the porportioning valve only has one wire coming from it... Im lost.... I cant seem to make it work....

Mind you this truck has yet to be driven.... and I dont know for certain that the brake light switch actually works...

I know the circuit works.. as stated i wired in a basic toggle switch and can make the brakes work that was... but its kinda impractical..... lol...

My 53 f100 had the original brake switch on the original master cylinder under the floorboard. It was a pressure switch, and had two terminals on it.

You said something about a proportioning valve. This leads me to believe you have updated the braking system. The single connection you have on the proportioning valve is for a brake warning light, not the regular brake lights.

If you have a totally modern system with a dual master cylinder, and the master cylinder does not have any extra ports on it, you have two options;

1. Rig up a switch on the pedal linkage. You could use the modern switch type that came with the later model system you have, if you have hanging pedals under the dash. If you have everything under the floorboard, then I would do the next option.

2. Go buy the shortest possible piece of brake line you can find, and also buy a T fitting. Take one of the lines off the master cylinder and install the short piece and then the T. Hook the original line to the other side of the T. Make sure the T you buy has two brake line threaded holes with the seats, and the other hole is 1/8" or 1/4" pipe thread. Go buy a brake pressure switch like came on the 53(may have been that way on your truck originally too) and thread it into the T and wire it up.

As usual you guys are the best... just wish I could bring my puter with me outside..lol..

Well Im gonna have to go with the brake pressure style switch as mentioned before because this truck still has the factory brake master under the floor board...

I looked all around the master before I tried wiring the brake light... and the only thing I could find in the brake system with wires coming from it was the mentioned switch on the proportioning valve.... and of course its not what Im looking for... so damn damn damn.. lol...

This truck has a modern suspension clip on it... but Im not sure what it is exactlly .. It looks like a chevy subframe...Im just wiring the truck for a friend who has no idea about the truck other than it looks cool... lol...

Thanks again for the help...
