OK, I am intersted in changing my stock 1992 302, with auto E4OD, for either a new 302 or a 351 or may be something better and bigger.
What are all the thing that you must think about when chaging out an engine for a stronger replacement engine. (ex: Tranny, driveshaft, brakes,...)
I want to know any thing and everything that you need to know and upgrade. I am just curious and I want to be safe and don't want anything to brake that isn't already broken.
Check the swap notes. Yeah, the ones at the top of the forum.
Otherwise, you have to change nothing in terms of suspension or brakes. Basically, little more than engine and related bits.
Why? Your truck (I assume) came with 3 engine options and it's easier to make the same tranny (the auto at least) and everything behind it rather than 3 of everything....cheaper as well. Overbuild or don't build at all.
Brakes? Don't bother. If your truck can't stop at highway speeds right now, then you better think about it. Otherwise.....
There is this myth in mostly sports cars that you must change brakes and rear axles when swapping to a bigger engine. Not true unless the car is going to be track material. Read above for that reasoning.
Ok, so your saying that I don't really need to change anything really other than the related engine bits and parts when doing an engine swap to a more powerful engine.
If so than thanks.
if you can get as complete of a 5.8 as you can unless you want to buy a new engine. the only stuff from your 302 that would fit onto the 5.8 are the acessory brackets, motor mounts, engine harness. everything else must be 5.8 specific. to make my swap easier i found a wrecking yard 5.8 complete from oilpan to upper intake. You will also need to get the correct ecu as well. since you have an e4od that will bolt up to the 5.8 finding the correct ecu will be easy because that was an option in your rig.
OK, so I only really have to find an ECU, brackets and little bits and pieces that are missing from the used 5.8. Unless I get it new.
And the E40D tranny will just mount right up the 5.8, correct?
