98' Transfer case rebuild
Has anyone ever done a rebuild of a transfer case for a 98' Explorer with the 4.0. I have been told that this is a job that just about anyone can do. I want to atempt this on my own but not shore if I can handel it. I can do just about anything. Any info would help thanks guys

I also have the BW 44-05 that has "internal problems" according to the dealership. The shift motor will change the gear ratio correctly, but the front axle does not engage. Paid the delaership to diagnosis the problem and they said they were able to rule out any electrical issues so it must be a mechanical issue inside the transfer case. Does anyone know what typically goes wrong? I also want to know where to get internal parts for the BW 44-05. It is easy to find bearings and seals, but what about other components? The other alternative is to buy a rebuilt unit. If you have attempted to rebuild one and found it difficult please let me know and I will just get a rebuilt unit. Any suggestions on where to find the best (quality and cost) rebuilt units? Thanks.

I was asking just because everyone that I have talked to said it was really easy. I was looking for more detailed info. The most common problem and what is wrong with mine is the clutch pack in the T-Case gos bad. The best place to get a rebuild is from borg warner. You will pay the a premium cost but its worth it to know its done right. All the internal parts are only avaliable from ford. If you have any other info please share it
