Does anyone out there know if the 4x4 running gear from a like ranger bolt into a 2x4 chassis. I have a 1992 i would like to convert to a 4x4. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Running gear, what do you mean by running gear? They would have the same tranny, you'll need a new front axle (duh) and a x-fer case, and some time and money and all that stuff, but it could be done I assume.
You're in for a big project. It is a different trannie. You'll also have to add a transfer case, new driveshaft(s), new 4x4 front I-beams & associated running gear. You'll either need a manual T-case with the shift linkage/handle and modify your floorpan, or an electronic-shift one and the buttons/module for the dash. I'm not sure if there is an additional module for the electronic shift under the dash or on the frame, etc. You should also change the front springs due not only to ride height but the heavier unsprung weight (front running gear) up front. the 4x4s usually come with lift blocks in the rear as well to match the slightly taller front springs. Let's see, what else? Shocks. I was very close to this conversion myself (check out Danger Ranger I), but was going for a straight front axle out of an early Bronco. There are conversion kits for this swap that incorperate a lift as well. http://broncograveyard.com/products/...fabritech.html

You'd be better off putting that body on a stright 4x4 frame with a bad body.
You're basically changing the whole underside of the truck.
If you had an EDGE 2wd or Trailhead, you're only missing the front axle and t-case, really.
A pure 2wd truck? Heh, if you have to ask, don't bother.
Reward yourself with what you really want and find a used 4x4...the used vehicle market these days is worth saving the sweat over.
The cross member is different (not mentioned) to slam a t-case in place. Thois parts don't just drop in on a 2wd truck. The tranny tunnel has the plate to pick off to put a t-case shifter through, but as noted already, why fight a losing battle?
I agree, if you are this much into converting, you might just wanna pick up a 4x4 truck.
If you are absolutely determined, make a project out of it. But it's gonna be expensive, take forever, and require a lot of work.
